Emerging Issues Oversight Committee

Objective

The objectives of the Emerging Issues and Outreach Committee (EIOC) are to:

(a) To identify developments in the external environment around the world, outside of the Board’s strategic planning process, that may have implications for the Board’s strategy and work plan, require Board action or otherwise merit Board attention; and

b) To advise the Board on ways to enhance the effectiveness of the Board’s outreach efforts, including with respect to the scope and focus of, and general approach to, its outreach activities.

At its December 2013 meeting, the Board finalized working processes for its EIOC initiative.

 

IESBA June 2019 Meeting Highlights

The Board received an update on the activities of EIOC since December 2018, and a presentation from Sundeep Takwani, Director–Regulation at ACCA, on the United Kingdom audit developments. Mr. Takwan is also an IESBA Technical Advisor and a member of the EIOC.

The EIOC’s presentation included an overview of the scope, intensity and focus of the IESBA’s outreach activities over the last three years. Among other matters, the Board discussed a structured approach to categorizing stakeholders for purposes of outreach planning, and exchanged views about how the effectiveness of outreach might be enhanced as a strategic vehicle in advancing the Board’s various objectives.

The Board will receive its next update from the EIOC in December 2019.
